Choosing A Great Snorkel Set

There's no doubt about it, the most common diving equipment for those who are into scuba diving or want to keep it simple with some back to basics snorkeling, is the snorkel set.  When you do a basic search for the term, whether in a search engine or on one of the online dive shops, you'll quickly notice that they come in two forms.  The first set you'll see consists of a dive mask, swim fins, and a snorkel.  The next set you'll see consists of just a dive mask and snorkel.  So clearly, the term can mean two different things.

Snorkeling itself is something that most people find to be very relaxing.  In the shallow waters of the ocean you can see some of the most beautiful and amazing sea creatures you can imagine.  And you get to do this totally unencumbered by such heavy scuba accessories as tanks, regulators, dive computers, and other things that can really weigh you down and take away from the experience.  The shallow waters are almost always very well lit by the light of the sun, so all of the gorgeous sea creature colors really jump out.

The components of the snorkel set are very basic.  In fact, they have been around in some form for well over a century.  The snorkel is usually nothing more than a breathing tube of approximately 16” that extends to the surface of the water while the diver's head is face down in the water.  Modern variations of the snorkel include a sump that automatically drains any water that collects in the tube.
